God's Refrigerator

"The long and winding road that leads to your door
Will never disappear
I've seen that road before it always leads me here
Leads me to your door"  - Beatles 1970

The Long and Winding Road was the Beatles 20th and last number one song.  Soon after, the Beatles parted ways and went in different directions, different roads if you will.  To me, the words from that song, especially the lines referenced above, signify what has transpired in my life over the past year and half.  Regular readers of this blog know that I have been on a journey recently, which lead me in a direction of exploring entry into local politics.  I have literally met with roughly 110 people over this time, some even more than once.

In explicitly every conversation, one theme has prevailed - we need to return to Lancaster County values: hard work, service to neighbor, community, church, family, small business and most importantly -- authenticity.  People are starving for their politicians to be authentic and to bring opposing interests together to solve problems.  As I wrote before, those who make the problems are unable to solve them.  I've also learned how close-knit the local political party members are in this area, but that is for another blog.

Before and after each conversation, I pray.  I pray that God leads our conversation in the direction He wants it to go.  I also then thank God for giving us the time to come together to chat and/or to start or to build a future relationship.  After we say our goodbyes, my road leads, most often, back to my house.  When I enter my house, I almost always walk through the kitchen and past my refrigerator, where pictures of my family are hung.

I've learned on my long and winding road, that God is telling me that all roads lead back to the family.  And, since we are all part of God's family, all roads therefore lead to Him.  The words "...leads me to your door"...could very much say, "leads me to Your (God's) door."  In the end, it's your family that is important - God's family.  Solving poverty, deficits, or bigotry, or turning this nation around if that's what you want, begins at home with your family and God -- along with Lancaster County values mixed in along the way.  The recipe for turning around America, begins at the home.

When I someday arrive at God's door, Heaven, the first thing I want to do is to run to His refrigerator to see my picture hanging on it because I know its there.  And when I'm there, I'll be sure to look for yours, because after all, we are all a part of God's family and in this together.

  • Believe that you are special to God and are hanging on His refrigerator.
  • Act by returning to God today.
  • Serve without asking for anything in return.
