1. A Christian’s highest allegiance is neither to the elephant (GOP) nor to the donkey (Dems), but to Jesus.  Anything less is idolatry.

2. From the "who knew that" column, comes this about emojis.  You know about emojis right?  They are those little smiley faces that now have turned into hundreds of communication symbols.  Well, there is an international group that not only standardizes punctuation, but also reviews new batches of proposed emojis.  Currently, the Unicode Consortium is reviewing new emojis for publication that include a pregnant woman, two strips of bacon, a clown and an avacado.  Who knew that there is an international body that approves emojis?

3.  The World Series started Tuesday - Mets and Royals.  Because I am a national league guy at heart, I'm rooting for the Mets.  As a Phillies fan, did I just write that?

4. So NJ Gov Chris Christie was kicked out of the quiet Amtrak car on Sunday.  Honestly, I bet Christie could get kick out of a loud car for being too loud if there was one.

5.   "I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about a MP3 field?  I want something new! I want them to think differently!  Hey here's an idea.  Rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why don't you spend some of your time sorting out the pathetically expensive server line up?"  This preceding comment was posted on a tech forum site in 2001 reacting to Apple's newest product the iPod.  Looking back, the iPod changed the way we listen to music and brought forth other products such as the smartphone and tablet.  Sometimes, people's ideas seem wrong, but the true leaders are the ones that fight past the critics and keep working toward their goals and dreams.

6.  This question was posed to 121 motorists: how long would you wait before going through a red light that doesn't change to green?  Answers are as follows...how long would you wait?
  • 34 said that they would wait 3 to 5 minutes
  • 32 - 2 to 3 minutes
  • 36 - 1 to 2 minutes
  • 9 - 45 secs to 1 minute

7. Congratulations to Lancaster McCaskey and University of Pittsburgh basketball player Lamar Patterson who made the roster of the Atlanta Hawks in his second pro season (he played overseas last year).   I wonder how many Patterson Hawks jerseys will be given as presents this Christmas in Lancaster County?

8.  A company called PicoBrew has designed a table top brewer that allows users to buy PicoPaks (like K-Cups for Keurig coffee brewers) for $19.  these PicoPaks contain all the ingredients to make about 14 bottles worth of beer. It will take 2 hours to brew the beer, but users will have to wait for five to seven days for the fermenting processes.  But this isn't the best part.  When it's ready, the brewer will send you a message on your smartphone. Fifty brewers are on board, including Delaware favorite Dogfish Head.  The PicoBrew will retail for $1,000 and go on sale in the spring 2016.

9.  The girls, Tina and I will be dressed as minions while tailgating at Penn State before the game with Illinois this Saturday - Halloween.  However, I will be taking off my costume in favor of blue and white to watch the game inside Beaver Stadium.  No word yet if the girls and Tina will be minions inside the stadium.  Look for pictures this Saturday.

10.  Don't forget that clocks are moving one hour back this Saturday night/Sunday morning at 2:00 AM, giving us all an extra hour of sleep.

Have a great week.

1. A Christian’s highest allegiance is neither to the elephant (GOP) nor to the donkey (Dems), but to Jesus.  Anything less is idolatry.

2. "Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer.  Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future."  President John F Kennedy

3. Many of my same local legislators who voted to increase the state gas tax and other fees in 2013 are now writing op eds and penning articles in their weekly updates saying that they are ardent about holding the line on taxes in the ongoing budget battle with Governor.

4. "We must instill a desire in all of PA's citizens -- rich, poor, college students, day care workers, state employees, accountants, garbage collectors - to do the right thing, which may involve some sacrifices by everyone.  If we can find a way to do that through spending cuts, agency restructuring or temporariliy appropriating money elsewhere, we will be able to fix the budget through those processes, rather than by leadership on both sides succombing to name calling and dare I say it, scare tactics." - me.

5.  In "Back to the Future II", Marty McFly was taken aback when he learned that the Cubs won the World Series in 2015.  The writer of the movie is a life-long St.Louis Cardinals fan who wanted to make an outrageous prediction in the movie, which was a dig to the Cubbies and their fans. Today - the present day 2015 - the Cubs are down 2-0 to the Mets and need 4 wins to play for the World Series title.  By the way, 7 players on the Cubs' roster hadn't been born when the movie was released in November 1989. Incidentally, there will be a special one-day showing of this movie tomorrow to commemorate the movie's flash forward to October 21, 2015.

6.  Time in prayer in not time wasted -- it's time invested.  Tim's three principles of prayer:  keep it honest; keep it simple; keep it up.

7.  And now for the Tuesdays with Tim obligatory Disney quotes from Walt Disney: "Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it and work at it until it's done and done right."  "All my troubles and obstacles have strengthened me."

8. "One should never trouble about getting a better job. But one should do one's present job in such a manner as to qualify for a better job when it comes along."  President Calvin Coolidge

9. A marriage certificate makes you married about as much as a birth certificate makes you a human being. It's not about the paper or some law - it's all about the committment, the union, and the love.  While I believe God created marriage to be between a man and a woman, I also believe that at the end of the day, it's all between you, your spouse, your partner and God.  For these reasons, governments at all levels should get out of the business of marriage and put it back where it belongs -- before God.  Let Him have the final say.

10.  As someone who has a part-time gig as a live television broadcaster, I have on occasion (LOL) said some things that makes me say, "did I just say that on live TV?"  So, in keeping with that theme, here are some sportscaster blunders from the world of sports:
  • "He just leaped up to make one of those diving stops that only he can make."
  • "There's someone warming up in the bullpen, but he is obscured by his number."
  • "That pitch is swung on and missed - and it's fouled back."
  • "I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid."
  • "Nobody in football is a genius like Norman Einstein is"
  • "Hawaii doesn't win many games in the United States."
  • “Any time Detroit scores more than 100 points and holds the other team below 100 points, they almost always win.”

Have a wonderful week.

  1. A Christian’s highest allegiance is neither to the elephant (GOP) nor to the donkey (Dems), but to Jesus.  Anything less is idolatry.

  2. Wang Sicong recently bought two gold Apple Watches ($17,000 each).  So Tim, who is Wang Sicong?  He is the son of China’s richest man.  Who cares if the son of the richest dude in China is spending his daddy’s money on expensive watches?  If I told you that he bought them for his dog, would you care then?

  3. I’m a Quilted Northern guy.  You may like Charmin.  Still others may gravitate toward a generic brand.  We all have our favorite brand of bathroom tissue.  But, do you take your favorite toilet paper to your workplace?   If you are a member of the NY Jets you do.  The J-E-T-S  Jets, Jets, Jets, played their NFL game this past Sunday in London.  Some 220 people were on the official travel brigade to jolly old England.  Accompanying them in addition to their football equipment was 100% grade-A American Toilet Paper.  After all, if you are not comfortable down there, how can you possibly play a good football game? I wonder if they declared their locker room a ‘no chafe’ zone.

  4. According to Forbes, the most successful leaders do these things automatically:
     - Make others feel safe to speak up
     - Make decisions
     - Communicate expectations
     - Are accountable to others
     - Provide continuous feedback
     - Problem solve
     - Ask questions and seek counsel
     - Exude positive energy
     - Properly find, allocate and deploy top talent

  5. On September 29, 2015 a former employee of a large tech company purchased a domain name from the buying service Google Domains.  For years, he was trying to buy this particular domain name and was surprised that it was finally available.  He completed the application form at 1:15 AM, paid the $12.00 cost, and clicked submit.  He was then the proud owner of the domain name that he coveted for years.  However, his ownership was short lived. After just 60 seconds, Google Domains emailed him to say that it had canceled the order because someone else registered the site before he could.  His $12.00 was refunded and he was out of luck – again.  But for one minute, Sanmay Ved could say without lying that he owned the domain named Google.com.

  6. For my Walt Disney World lovers out there below are some facts about its monorail system:
     - Each train consists of six cars, which can transport up to 360 people at a time.
     - The top speed is 40 MPH – the same speed as the biggest drop at Splash Mountain
     - The drivers of the Monorails are called pilots
     - There are 12 trains in the entire fleet and each sport different colors
     - It is the second busiest monorail system in the world, transporting 150,000 passengers per day.  The busiest in the world is      in Chongqing, China
     - It takes 600 volts to power each one of the monorails’ 8 motors

  7. First YouTube, now YouNow.  YouNow is a new app that is quickly becoming a hit with teens.  It is a real-time video broadcasting app that allows teens to hang out and interact with each other.  You can watch people that are live-streaming via different channels, such as “Musicians” or “Dancing”, all the while chatting with them at the same time.  If you really like the person that you are watching, you can tip them with points purchased through the app using real money. By far the most troubling channel is #sleepingsquad where viewers can watch, yes, you guessed it, people sleeping.

  8. You as an American have a right under the U.S. Constitution to protect and defend yourself.

  9. Penn State University announced last week that it will be studying whether to renovate or rebuild Beaver Stadium as part of an overall athletic facilities plan.  Apparently, the lack of modern amenities such as spacious bathrooms and concession areas are growing the ire of fans and officials alike.  If a decision is made to rebuild the second largest college stadium, I see it no different than local school district school boards, administrators and parent groups pushing for new turf fields, more pleasing athletic fields or better weight rooms.  Keeping up with the Joneses, and this is all it is, only leads to increased taxes, increased ticket prices and more money charged for chicken tenders and fries. But hey, I can relieve myself in a client controlled restroom.  When will people ever be satisfied and thankful for what they have?  Why mess with happiness or tradition?  Lost in everything is the reason that there are schools and colleges to begin with – educating our next generation.

  10. My mantra:  “By identifying and then reducing wasteful state government spending, the need for increased taxes declines substantially.  Then, after this spending is under control, an atmosphere will exist for the lowering of those existing taxes, which benefits all citizens.” – TSR
