I googled myself several weeks ago. I came across a derogatory comment directed at me made by someone to a newspaper article that highlighted the Zombie Run in Lititz last fall (I was one of the co-chairmen of the event). "Really?" I thought. Someone who I do not know questioned my involvement in the event and suggested that I have no business doing anything, let alone planning an event.
As a person who is in the public eye due to my television work and my commitment to serving on community event committees, I unwillingly open myself up to criticism and unwarranted comments. I've learned to handle these types of comments, both heard and unheard, because I know the truth. I know my heart.
Soon, I will begin a blog series that will open me up to criticism on all sides. I actually began writing this series a couple of weeks ago and prayed about whether or not to even post it. My purpose for this series will be to show that we as a people should be willing to have open, civil discussions on issues of the day with those who disagree with us. Moreover, while this topic discusses a sensitive social issue, its intent is also aimed at those politicians and their minions who avoid taking public, principled stands on issues in favor of trying to win elections and to stay in or to gain power.
I'm sure that I will google myself in a month or two and read some more ill-spirited remarks, but like that school yard saying, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me", I will remain resolute in my opinion.
Believe this verse: Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
