Ah, the misfit toys. A Charlie-in-the Box. A Train with square wheels. A Squirt gun that shoots jelly. They longed to be just like the other toys. I felt sad for them. They were banished to a far off land because they were different. Different maybe on the outside, but inside, where it counts, their hearts were in the right place. They still held out hope for all that was good in the world. The misfits got it. They were authentic and not afraid to wear their true feelings on their sleeves.
Like the toy train and other irregular toys, I too feel like a misfit in my belief that despite the high taxes, the misguided infusion of currency into the market, the increasing national debt, the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS, the lack of voter turnout in the recent election, the amount of poor people living in this nation, the suffocating government regulations and two parties who thwart rational discussions without tested solutions, I remain optimistic that we can resurrect this privileged land.
Eugene McCarthy once said, "This is, I say, the time for all good men not to go to the aid of their party, but to come to the aid of their country.” We are putting too little emphasis and hope on the individuals in favor of the political parties. The parties, their leadership and committees 1) determine which direction is right and 2) want to win only so that they can be in control of government.
I for one assert that in order to reduce the size of government, lower taxes and restore respect for each other, hearts must be changed to become more like Christ -- first.
- BELIEVE that individuals and not the parties can solve this country's woes
- ACT by living out Biblical principles in your daily lives and witnessing to others about the Gospel
- SERVE God first, your family second, and your neighbor third
The fight is not against flesh and blood, against a poltical opponent, or against someone who disagrees with you politically, but one of spiritual warfare. One soldier cannot win a war. It takes an entire army of soldiers. Jesus' church is at war wiht Satan and we cannot fight alone.
I know that this solution seems a bit simplistic in nature. But hey, I'm a misfit. Who is with me?
