It's been a while since I posted a blog. I took some time off to collect my thoughts and to meet with more and more people about my entry in politics.
All of my conversations are private and shall remain private. However, I can say that there is a constant theme that has resonated from local GOP representatives: you are not welcomed, encouraged or even supposed to mention interest for any run for any office unless you first prove yourself to the party. Prove what? That I can raise money? That I can be a good little soldier? That I can make phone calls in support of endorsed candidates?
Recent elections, both at home and in other states, have shown that crossing the GOP and those in power will vilify any candidate and their supporters. Power corrupts. Power simply put, is bad.
No one in power seems to want real change or make any difference in Washington or even in Lancaster County because unless you are the chosen one or "in the queue", your ideals, passion or solutions aren't welcomed or even wanted. It should be candidates first, party second. Today, it's the other way around.
If you are contemplating running for any office, be prepared for this question from those in power, "What Have You Done for Me Lately?" If you can't answer that question to their satisfaction, don't even bother talking to them.
The question for me is this: "If I can't beat them, should I join them?"
