Where are the Jehoshebas in the GOP?

"But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoruam and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes, who were about to be murdered.  She put him and his nurse in a bedroom from Athaliah; so he was not killed."  2 Kings 11:2

The above account took place some 840 years before Jesus' birth.  Had it not been for Jehosheba's action and standing up for God-fearing principles, Jesus may have never been born because God had promised the Jewish people that a Savior would come from the lineage of King David.

During the time of Jehosheba, politics in the region were unethical.  Nations formed alliances with each other and coalitions within government structures were formed so that the existing power bases would stay in tact.  It was corrupt.  Compromise for the sake of staying on top was the norm.  And, the nations turned from God.  Sound familiar to 2013?

An evil queen named Athaliah assumed the throne by having the King (her son), who was from the lineage of David, killed.  She worshipped Baal and in an effort to eradicate the former King's heirs, she decreed that all of the children of the former King should die.

Jehosheba, half-sister to the former King, loved and worshipped the God of David, Issac and Jacob.  She knew of the promise God made to her people about the Messiah coming from David's lineage.  So therefore, instead of succombing to Athaliah's decree and just watching from a distance, she took action and hid the King's son - Joash - in order to protect the direct line to Jesus.  Seven years later, Athaliah was killed and Joash became King.

One simple act of courage and standing up for your principles may be all it takes to change course.  How often have you been in a situation and said to yourself, "one person can't make a difference?"  Jehosheba did not comprise her values and look what happened...she saved the Kingdom and then lineage of King David by performing a selfless act.   She took action and didn't fear the consequences.

  • BELIEVE in yourself and be passionate about your beliefs
  • ACT by not being afraid to voice your opinons or concerns about where the nation is headed
  • SERVE others as a way to show them God's love despite your differences

Jehosheba's name means “Fullness, or Oath, of the Lord.” She took an oath of following God and she saved the Kingdom.  Just think if the GOP actually followed their oath they took to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution or followed GOP traditional values?"  The United States might be in a much better place than it is today.

Where are the Jeosheba's in the GOP, in office or not, who actually take stands, voice opposition to even those in their party and take actions that are firm in traditional and historical principles?  Few and far between I'm afraid.  And the ones that do, are villified.
